The Importance of Flood Insurance

The Importance of Flood Insurance

Why is flood insurance important?

There has been a devastating amount of flooding throughout North Texas in the last two weeks. Despite being in a drought for most of the summer, the DFW area has seen nasty winds and unforgivable floods. As of Sunday, September 4, 2022, there were 90,000 North Texans still feeling the results of these flood. These hard times shine a light on the importance of pairing flood insurance with your homeowner’s policy.

Floods are a scary reality, and no home is completely safe from them. More than 20% of flood claims come from outside of high-risk flood areas. A single inch of water can cause up to $25,000 worth of damages. Having flood insurance can be the difference between reasonably recovering or experiencing a financial disaster

Most homeowner’s policy DOES NOT COVER FLOODS. Many homeowners do not realize this until it is too late. It is important to protect your family and belongings from a natural disaster, even if the chances of needing a flood policy feel unlikely. Flash floods do not come with a warning, and they are not gentle.

In some extreme cases, the president will announce federal disaster assistance to those affected by flooding. However, if he does not declare a disaster, many homeowners will be left on their own. Flood insurance will cover your home, even if a disaster is not declared.
